Trip to Abberton

Last Thursday year 3 enjoyed a trip to Abberton Nature Reserve doing a variety of activities including learning about plants, pond dipping, whittling and toasting marshmallows on the camp fire.  We had a fantastic time, the children were really enthusiastic and the instructors at Abberton complimented them all on their behaviour and attitude throughout the whole day.  Well done year 3!

Instructions

This half term we are looking at instructions in year 3.  We started by discussing what different types of instructions there are and then what you need to make a good set of instructions such as time connectives and imperative verbs.  Afterwards we followed a set of oral instructions to make our own 'Book Buddies' to use in our reading books.

The Queen's 90th birthday celebrations.

On Friday the whole school had a fantastic day celebrating the Queen's 90th birthday doing a variety of activities.  In year 3 we made our own crowns and then in the afternoon did some Banksy inspired artwork.  What a great day we all had.

Story telling

In year 3 we have been looking at adventure stories. We practised our story telling skills by picking three different cards ,one with an object, one with a character and one with a setting and created our own stories based around these and told them to one another.

Science - Floating and sinking

We had a lot of fun today in 3CM with our new floating and sinking Science unit.  You did a great job being scientists and predicting which items on your table might float and those that might sink.  Next week, we will be thinking about why some objects float and others don't.  Do you think you know why?

Is it because some are heavier than others?
Do items with more air float?
Do big objects always sink?
Do all light objects float?

Why not have a think and do some research to share with us before next weeks Science lesson on Tuesday.

Welcome Back

We hope you had a fantastic Easter break and enjoyed eating lots of chocolate and spending time with your families.  It was lovely to hear about the things you got up to in the holidays, you seemed to have fun on days out to farms, the theatre, swimming and the Cinema to name but a few.

Now it is back to lots of exciting learning for the final term of this school year.  Our main theme this term will be Madagascar.  Our curriculum map is on the school website so take a look at what we will be learning this half term.

Direction

We have had fun this week looking at angles and direction in Maths.  You did a great job of using your knowledge of acute, obtuse, reflex and right angles to direct one another through a series of routes out in the playground.

Have fun at your green party tomorrow and a fantastic Easter break.  We have decided not to send homework out over the holidays to allow you the chance to rest and have lots of fun.  However please ensure you are still reading five times a week on your own or with an adult.

HAPPY EASTER
